Are you still stuck in the past? Are you hanging onto things and ways from “back in the day”? Are you still using older ways or things when other people are moving on?
I was listening to a conversation my wife was having with some of our friends the other day. The topic was about how schools don’t teach cursive as much anymore. When we were growing up we were taught to write in both print and cursive. And she was actually offended about this. And I have to admit I am a bit too. She thought it was sad that people weren’t going to be learning things that have been around for a long time.
Take the electronic book. Is it going to replace actual books someday? The Kindle and the new Nook are fancy and convenient ways to read books, but will it make books obsolete? I really don’t want to see things go that way either.
But I also don’t like to be left behind either. So I’m at a bit of a crossroad here; Should I continue to hang onto the past and just keep using what I have. In other words ignore the technology and just stick with books. Or should I embrace the oncoming trend and move on?
Online marketing is the same way. There are new ways to market and new ways to make money popping up all the time. Some work some don’t. So what should we do? Just keep jumping to the next best and newest tactic? Or stick with the older ways that are still working?
It’s not always easy, but this is one of those situations where you need to make your own path and kind of take a middle road. There are some tactics that are older and still work well so I wouldn’t really give those all up. You don’t want to constantly change things, but you don’t want to be left behind either.
Let’s take a look at the book example. Kind of a middle road here as well. I can’t give up an actual book. It’s a personal experience that I will always enjoy. So I’m going to always have those around. But I do want a Kindle too. I like the idea of that kind of convenience. I’ll still embrace the new technology without giving up the old.
Life is full of choices and you have several ways you can go about it. Stay on top of the new trends and tactics or stick with the old ones that work. Or create your own path and combine the two.
Or better yet, become a true leader; make and lead your own path. Learn from your own experimentation and teach others. Innovate and just shatter the whole problem altogether.

Hi Chris,
As far as the books go, I am square in your camp. I decided to ditch my all or nothing approach and do both. I love my Kindle and do about 75% of my pleasure reading there. I also like to shake things up a bit and flip the pages of a book.
I like your idea of blazing your own trail. Good advice me thinks.

It’s odd how easy it is to fall into a all or nothing approach. Sometimes it takes a second look to realize you have other choices lol.

Not necessarily hang to the old, but more of hang on to a proven one. Marketing online is just so fast-paced that if we dont pay attention we may get lost instantly. New things always come but its just a matter of testing and seeing what is working and worth doing.
