My Friend Lost Her Home To a Fire — You Can Help

by Christopher D. Anderson on February 17, 2010

I’m going to do something a bit unusual today but it’s something I need to try and do. Recently a friend of mine lost her house to a fire. She pretty well lost everything she owned. Luckily everyone got out okay and no one was harmed. That I’m glad for.

Everything she owned was burned up or damaged by the fire. Some of us around here are gathering some of our own belongings to give to her to help her out. On top of all that I found out that her insurance didn’t even cover the cost of the house, let alone any of her belongings. Basically she still owes $4000 on a house that no longer exists. She currently has an apartment but I can’t imagine it’s going to be easy trying to pay off a house payment along with rent on her income.

She has always been kind to me and is a very caring person. I hate to see bad things happen to good people. I wanted to do something bigger then just some extra furniture and appliances. I wanted to help her relieve some stress as well. To do something a little more. After racking my brain a bit I came up with an idea. It’s kind of crazy and it may not work but I have to give it a try. I decided to try and use leverage from the internet and some of the awesome people to help her out.

So here’s the deal. I want to raise some money for her. Enough to get some of the pressure off her back so she can worry about moving on and getting over this awful thing. Here’s where you all come in. Keep in mind this is not some kind of marketing ploy or tactic. It has nothing to do with marketing or making money. It’s about helping out others in need.

If you would like to help out there are two ways you can help:

1. Make a donation using the Chipin donation button below.

It doesn’t have to be much. $1, $5, or whatever you feel you want to give, it’s completely up to you. I’m going to collect these donations for about a month or so. My goal is to reach $5000, but every little bit helps. It may seem like quite a bit for just a donation but if a lot of people donate a little bit it won’t take long. Told ya I wanted to do something big. (update: I changed to using this Chipin widget instead of the paypal button, but it still goes to my paypal.)

Current Donations from paypal= $5.00

This will go directly to her when all is said and done. It’s going to help her pay off the house and a little more for whatever else she may need. My income I earn online this month is going into the donation as well. It’s not much which is another reason I thought I would reach out.

2. Spread the Word!
Whether you make a donation or not, this is one is important. Spread the word. Tweet, blog whatever you want to do. Even if you decide not to donate, please at least do this. I would like this to be seen by a lot of people so I can reach my goal. This is all for her and I’m determined to help out as much as I can.

This is a good chance to help someone that really deserves it. But whoever helps out I will make it worth your while. I haven’t decided how just yet, but I was thinking along the lines of some kind of recognition, such as a link to your site or something to help with traffic. I also have a couple products I’m going to be coming out with in the coming months that I would be more than happy to give to anyone that donates. The point is I will make it worth your time one way or another.

Keep in mind I won’t see any of this money besides handing her the check. I know it will be a huge help for her and that’s why I’m giving this a whirl.

I’ll keep updating here as things move along. I hope this goes well as all I want to do is help her out. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. I think that’s about all I have to say, I can’t wait to see the greatness in this world. I know it’s out there, now is a good time to prove it.

That’s a sad story. I can’t imagine how it would feel like to see my house on fire, it must be devastating. You’re doing a great job helping. Keep it up.
