As human beings we are all very diverse. And it’s the same in the way we learn things. Online marketing is of course no different and it’s in your best interest to figure out how you learn best. There is a lot of information on the world wide web. And it’s up to you to figure out what works best for you and stick with it.
As I said we are all a little different. And while I may learn a lot more from reading, you may learn better from watching. The point is, find your strength in how you learn and use that format to learn what you need to be successful. Use your strengths to your advantage. When you get content from online sources about online marketing and other lessons, you may want to consider how you would learn best.
Listening
Podcasts, interviews, books on audio, teleseminars. These formats have been around for a long time. It’s more interactive then reading (especially if your able to attend the seminar). Sometimes hearing someone tell you how to do things helps. Some people just soak it in better this way.
It’s also very convenient. Having something on audio is great for traveling or just relaxing. Just stick the audio file on your mp3 player or play it on your computer. Sit back and relax and listen to some great content. It makes your content mobile. While you can read on the go, listening on the go is a bit more flexible. You can still drive or eat or whatever while your listening. I wouldn’t suggest trying to drive while you read.
Reading
By far still my most favorite way to learn. I’ve read a lot most of my life and love to read. So I can go through stuff pretty quick. But reading isn’t for everyone. Less people read nowadays then they used to. But with audio and video on the rise you can still get a lot of information.
Having your information in front of you is handy when you need to refresh yourself on something. Reading can be portable to a degree. Books and ebooks can go with you wherever you go (as long as you have a laptop or something similar).
Now ebook readers are really starting to get popular as well. Products such as the Amazon Kindle and the new Barnes and Noble Nook are just two of the big ones. There are more coming out everyday.
Reading is also a great way to relax and soak things in. It’s a great way to wind down and learn at the same time at the end of the day. I tend to retain a lot when I read, which is why it’s a good way for me to learn personally. But not everyone likes to read either.
Watching
Video is huge right now. This is a big one and is a great tool to use in your marketing efforts. Videos are great for learning as you actually see how things are done. You get see them in action. If you are watching a video with a tutorial on Twitter Lists, you will see what buttons to push, where to go, how to do it, and so on. Details are important here.
Not only that but it makes things much more personal. It can create trust and credibility in a quick manner. Body language can tell a lot about someone and it’s hard to hide in a video. If your watching a video with someone that is confident and trusting, it will come through in their body language. Which you will pick up whether you realize it or not.
Video is a great way to learn and is growing more popular by the day. A lot of people are including video in their websites and products and is really an excellent way to learn. It’s almost like having someone there to show you how things are done.
Doing
This by far is probably the best way to learn. While the other ways of learning are great for gathering and absorbing information, actually doing and taking action is where you will learn the most. Experience will teach you more than any teleseminar, book, or video will ever teach you.
Go out there and make mistakes, learn from that and implement it. This is why you always hear “take action” from every guru and no name in the marketing world. Because it’s true. You will learn more from doing then just reading, listening, or watching.
So those are the ways we learn in the wide world of online marketing. There is a lot of information and, when you can, pick what suits your skills the best. If you learn better from watching videos then try to get your information from videos. The point is to work off of your strengths and learn efficiently. Then get out there and implement that knowledge, it’s powerless otherwise.
