Every once in a while the unthinkable happens. For whatever reason your net goes out. Now what?
While it may seem like a read bad thing to lose the internet when you run an online business, there are plenty of things that you can do offline while waiting. These are all important things you can do to help your business grow.
1. Work on your ebook or report
If you have an ebook or report that you are working on, this would be ideal time to work on it without distraction. Without the net on, you won’t be receiving interruptions from email, twitter, or any other social programs. You won’t be tempted to get online to check something out. This is a great time to just concentrate on putting something together
2. Write up some blog posts
If you are a blogger, this would be an excellent time to write up some blog posts and get ahead a bit. When you do get back online, you will have posts all ready to go. All you would have to do is paste them in and post it. It makes things much smoother.
3. Read and learn
As marketers we have to learn a lot. There are a lot of things that go with running a business. This would be a great time sit back and read and learn. Pick up a book or open up a file on your computer (you have a bunch of em don’t you?) and just soak things in. When you get back online, implement what you learned.
4. Listen and learn
Just as above, if you have some audio interviews or webinars downloaded, this would be a good time to listen and learn. It’s the same as above, just remember to implement it when you get back online.
5. Organize your hard drive
We are bombarded by reports and ebooks every day. And while all these are useful in some way or another, it can quickly clutter your hard drive. Or if you have a lot of projects (and elements to those projects) they could be everywhere. Take some time and organize things. It will make everything much more streamlined when you need to get back to them.
6. Go over your bookkeeping
Keeping track of your expenses and money you receive is just as important as other parts of your business. Now would be a good time to go through and make sure everything is set the way it should be. Plus it could be a good way to see how you are doing income wise.
7. Come up with new tweets
A challenge of coming up with good tweets is coming up with them on a regular basis. This would be a good time to think up and write some new tweets that you can use later. This will keep things fresh when you get back to Twitter.
8. Brainstorm ideas for your business
This is an excellent time to brainstorm ideas for your business. This could be anything, but the point is to actually write it down. Don’t just think about it but use something, such as mind maps, to get your ideas down on paper (or screen). Flesh them out a bit and figure out how your going to do it. When you get back online put these ideas to use.
9. Go through your daily tasks
I’ve talked about going over your list of daily tasks and checking which ones directly work towards making your business grow. Go through your tasks and figure what you really need for your business and what you may just want. Keep the essentials.
10. Write down your goals.
Your goals are important. And going through them and revising them can do wonders. If they are outdated or you accomplished them throw them out. Or if you have not written down your goals, now would be a perfect time to set some goals for yourself.
These are just a few ideas. The point is to always be working on your business, even if you don’t have the net. While an online marketer’s job is primarily online, it doesn’t mean it has to be done solely online. You can do quite a bit to implement when you get back online.
