Some people have the idea that you need to talk a lot and get everything out about your product to make sales. It works to a degree. But there’s something you can do that will be much more effective marketing. Stop talking and listen.
As marketers we solve problems. Not all problems obviously but certain problems. Whether it’s helping others bring in more leads or teaching others how market or whatever, your product solves a problem. That is a big reason why people buy, to help them figure things out and learn.
So when you start a conversation with someone let them do all the talking. Ask questions when needed, but let them tell you their story. Keep the conversation going. Let them tell you their problems. If they have a problem, you may have a solution (i.e. your free ebook, your product).
Of course be sincere. Actually listen. Don’t just wait for the right opportunity. Do seize that moment, but keep listening. This will create trust with them and give you more opportunities.
So remember, listen to people. You might be amazed at what you find. And the opportunities you will discover.

I truly believe people need to listen more, and I actually blogged about this recently. I was in a situation where someone was talking about getting started online. I could have told them so much and given so much advice, but instead they chose to talk talk talk and at the end of it I just thought, if they don’t want to listen then that’s their loss. To be able to listen is such a great skill!

Yup, you got it. I see people do it all the time. I think they would be much better at sales if they just stopped talking for a min.
