Let me just start off with this: You won’t be able to keep up with everyone’s tweets. Even with a following of 100 people it’s going to be difficult, let alone when you have thousands. Just admit to yourself right now that your not going to catch every tweet. If you try to keep up with every tweet you’ll waste your day away. Which isn’t good for your business.
So what do you do to organize your tweets? Your going to want to pick the tweeters that have the best value and organize them into groups. This does two things. First you will be able to keep a better eye on important tweeters. People that provide you value or are entertaining for you. Second it takes a big part of the burden off of you trying to keep up with so many tweets. You can set aside a specific time to go through everyone elses tweets.
The key here is to make groups or lists. There are a few ways to do this, the newest being Twitter’s very own lists they just recently started. I haven’t had a chance to dive into it just yet, but it’s very similar to creating groups in third party programs such as Hootsuite or Tweedeck, which is what I use.
The point is your going to create groups just for specific tweeters. Do you have certain people that make very informative tweets? Make a group and call it something like “informative” or “valuable”. When you put those people in that specific group only their tweets will show up. Meaning their tweets won’t get lost in the sea of the main tweets.
Make as many groups as you need. Make one for people that tweet great quotes. Make a group for funny tweets. The point is your separating them from the rest of the chaos so that you can find the tweets that are important to you.
My next couple posts I’m going to go over the actual process of making a group in Tweetdeck and Hootsuite and I will also check out the Twitter lists as well and let you know how that goes. From what I have done with it so far, it’s very easy. Talk to you soon!

Do you have other programs that you use to help you keep track of tweets?
