When you are online long enough and provide valuable content you build credibility. You make a reputation for yourself and become known as someone people can trust. That’s the idea behind creating credibility. I’m going to give a personal example as to why this works.
I’ve been following the Freelance Writing blog for some time now. It’s run by Monika Mundell. It’s a great read and I’ve learned a lot from this particular blog. She’s a very nice person, friendly and professional. She is doing what I want to be doing eventually. Working from home full time, writing and blogging.
Why am I telling you all this? Because she is someone I look up to and trust. She has built credibility with me. Which in turn makes me watch everything she does. I always read all her blogs and any news she has. In essence, because she has credibility to me, I pay attention. Which is important in the marketing world.
She’s well on her way to her first product launch. I’m sure she is pretty excited about it. Here is the kicker, so am I. When I found out about the launch and I wanted to go out and tell the world. Obviously I can’t tell everyone, but it’s because of trust and credibility that I wanted to do that.
My point is this: When you create credibility with your followers and readers, it makes selling a product or program successfully much easier. Let’s work out a scenario real quick.
Let’s say your ready to launch a new product. You have quite a few people on your list. As well as a lot of readers. You have provided tons of information and helped many people. You have a reputation for being a great marketer and trustworthy.
What do you think will happen when you launch that product? Yup, all your loyal followers will spread the word and it will turn viral. They send it to their followers, and they send it to theirs, so on and so forth.
Obviously not everyone is going to be at this point when they launch a product. But I just wanted to show you the power of credibility and how it can affect you and your business. Creating credibility doesn’t happen overnight, but when you have it, it can be one of the best tools in your marketing toolbox.

Is there anyone that you tend to hang on every word they say? Is it because of the credibility they have?

This is oh so very true! Even if it’s with just a very small group of evangelists. If you have great relationships with your network, no matter how small, they will evangelize your product/service without flinching.
