9 Ways to Free Up Time in Your Day

by Christopher D. Anderson on October 7, 2009

Everyone has the same amount of time in their day. We can’t get any more time than what we have either. Once it’s gone, that’s it. With marketing and running an online business, there can a lot to do.

But there are ways to claim our time back, all is not lost. Just by freeing up a short amount of time we can become more efficient and get more done. Here are 9 ways to free up some more time and become more focused.

1. Get up a bit earlier: Getting up a bit earlier will add some extra time to your day. Even getting up a half a hour earlier than usual will give you some extra time you can use productively.

2. If you can, stay up a bit later: Just as above, even an extra half an hour in the evenings can give you ample time to finish tasks. But if your extremely tired already, I wouldn’t suggest this, as your quality of work may suffer.

3. Set certain time frames for your task: This will keep things in consistent patterns and help you stay more focused. Your more likely to work harder on a task if you know you only have a certain amount of time.

4. Giving up some free time: Outside of the work we do, we all have hobbies and things we do to relax. Some of these can shortened or taken out completely. Such as watching tv. You won’t miss it after awhile of it being gone.

5. Set certain time frames for your free time: Just like the time you should set aside for your work, you can set time frame for your free time. This creates consistency and gives you a time limit for your free time.

6. Delegate certain tasks: If you can afford it, outsourcing is an excellent way to free up some of your time. If you have very repetitive tasks that don’t really change much, it might be worth looking into having someone else do it for you.

7. Are tasks helping you achieve your goals: Look over your daily tasks and see what is really helping you to work towards your goal. Some tasks that you pick up don’t always help towards your progression. Get rid of these if you can.

8. Eliminate distractions: When you set down to do a task, eliminate any distractions. Turn off the phone, your email alerts, tell your family, whatever you need to do. Some simple peace and quiet will help you get things done much faster.

9. Practice: The more you tackle your tasks, the easier they become. This means you can do them faster and more efficiently. Not to mention, the better you know your tasks you can find better ways to accomplish them as well.

These are just a few ways to free up some of your time. Now you can use some of that time for other tasks, or give yourself a break (which is just as important).

There are plenty more ways to create more time for yourself and your work. The point is to keep yourself focused, and learn how to become more efficient in the things you do. That in itself will free up time as well.

One last note: Don’t forget to set aside time for people closest to you. It’s easy to get sucked into our working. Constantly improving and creating and working hard to make money. Just remember time is precious, especially for those you love.

Determination, time management and discipline — that’s the 3 attitude I can think of while reading through the 9 ways to free up time in a day. Also the ability to get rid of distractions as much as possible. I find the need to have a little gap between tasks as to deal with unexpectancies (if there is), or at least a little rest before continuing.

I like the last advise, to not neglect our loved ones after all the busy schedule. Well said.

Thanks for the read. I think your right, that little break is great once in awhile. It’s easy to forget to do though.
