Efficiency and Time — Ordering Chinese

by Christopher D. Anderson on September 30, 2009

We have a small chinese restaurant here close to where I live. I don’t know about anyone else but I love sweet and sour chicken. And I was hungry. So I ordered some and it was the quickest moment I’ve had on the phone. These people don’t mess around when it comes to business. Here’s the conversation I had:

Cheng’s: “This is Cheng’s, How can I help you?”

Me: “Ya, I’d like to make an order.”

Cheng’s: “Okay”

Me: “Uh, yeah, I need a pint of sweet and sour chicken please.”

Cheng’s: “Okay”

Me: “And that’s it.”

Cheng’s: “Phone number?”

Me: *gave them my phone number.

Cheng’s: “Okay then, bye”

Me: “Thanks.…”

*click

And that was that. I went down there and paid for it, and had a hot meal for the day. Just like that. No fluff, talking, or any kind of bs. Just straight to the point and efficient.

This might be something to remember when you work on your marketing. People are busy and don’t have a lot of time. I’m not saying to have a cold, transparent conversation as the one above. But just remember the idea of the efficiency.

I had a problem: I was hungry. Cheng’s had the solution: Sweet and sour chicken. And it was so easy to get it. One simple 30 second phone call and bam, 20 mins later I was eating. Problem solved.

Just something to think about when your working on some sort of marketing tactic or product. How efficient is it? What problems will your product solve? And will it solve it in a timely, problem free manner?

When your marketing or product is easy to use, and works well, it will leave an impact. And people will remember that.

Good advice.
Fast and efficient solutions are always great. I remember that some of my most liked posts were tutorials that told people how to do something quickly. These kind of posts may be great help in growing a blog!

Ya, we live in a very fast paced world, and I think people appreciate ideas that make things easier and faster for them. It’s kind of sad really, but that’s how it is. Just don’t forget to stop and smell the roses once in a while.

That’s a great analogy for marketing. Find a need and fill it. There are so many offline strategies that can be applied to online businesses,

Thats what I think every business or worker should focus on.delivering a product fast and simple. Some services just take a longer time when it can be as simple as the phone conversation above!

@Luca Di Nicola You are correct, there is quite a bit you can bring online. A friend of mine of mine worked offline in an mlm before he started internet marketing. Makes for a unique perspective.

@Aidil Agreed. I like things to be quick and efficient. It’s nice when thing run smoothly and quickly. Solved my problem.

@Young, oh the food is great! lol

So, if you can’t sell your product in a 30-second commercial, then it probably sucks…someone should tell the Shamwow guy.

lol I’ll let him know. That’s not exactly what I meant. It was more the efficiency of use then the time it took.
