How Creating Scarcity Can Help You Launch Your Product

by Christopher D. Anderson on August 14, 2009

We have seen it everywhere. Whenever someone launches a new product. They have a nice page on it, with a nice product for a good price, discounted of course. And then there it is, “Buy for this price within so many days. After that the price goes up.” So if someone was considering buying this product, that may be the final push to actually do it.

This tactic is quite effective. Put a deadline on your product and it will increase sales. This could mean raising the price after a certain amount of time. Or it could be taking it off shelves, so to speak, after a certain period. Basically this is your last chance, don’t delay!

Why does this work? People love to buy. And if you have a good strong copy that lays out the benefits of your product and it gives someone all the reasons they want to buy it, they are likely to buy it. But people are skeptical by nature and chances are they will stay on the fence for awhile an weigh their options.

They will come back to it later and buy it then right? Yes, they might if they really do want it. But then again, how many offers do we get every day. If you put it off, you may forget it.

So in comes your deadline. Buy it before so and so or the price goes up. I’ve even seen a countdown timer on a page recently. Now they have to make a decision now. Get it while it’s cheap?

This technique will give that little push that people need to make their decision. It’s subtle and effective.

So put a deadline on your product. Either put a price increase, or take it down after the deadline, or even sell only so many copies. It will make your stuff in high demand. And increase sales for you.
