The Difference Between GIVING Value and BEING Valuable by Matt Adamo

by Christopher D. Anderson on July 22, 2009

I came across someone really exciting post yesterday on Betternetworker. This is some awesome content here on this article from BN and I just had to show you all. His name is Matt Adamo and he one of the youngest I’ve seen around. But don’t let that fool you. I think he’s got what it takes and I look forward to more stuff from him. Go to his blog and read his story, it’s quite fascinating.

The difference between GIVING value and BEING valuable

by Matt Adamo

Ok, so i have a little story from yesterday that made me want to write this post. I’m writing this so (if you are culpable) that you realize, and you can stop. And so people can use this to attract more leads and not repel them away.

SO..

Yesterday i was on Facebook and this person (we will call him johnny) sends me a message telling me to come and read his free e-book. Now i had NEVER met this person, and before even saying “hi” he offered me his piece of $%17 e-book. So trying to be friendly and helpful i told him that if he wanted ANYONE to actually read his e-book he might want to at least introduce himself. And what he said next is what finally made me realize how to really “give value”

He told me that his upline in his network marketing company told him to just give this free e-book to as many people as he could and then get them on a list and into his sales funnel. He said this was “giving value” and this was what all the big dogs did to make a lot of money. However what he didn’t realize was that he WAS NOT giving value by any means. That e-book could have been the most informative thing in the world that could have made me MILLIONS of dollars however i will never read it because johnny is NOT a valuable person. Since i didn’t ask for it, it becomes SPAM.

It’s way more important in NETWORK marketing to be a valuable person and not spam people with “value” in the form of some bad e-book. On sites like Facebook, youtube and even this forum DO NOT spam people with your e-book. They don’t know who you are and if there is no relationship there is NOTHING.

The solution.

What johnny could have done that would have made me dying for more and asking for his e-book would have been if he first built a relationship with me. Maybe by Skype or even a few wall posts. Then i would have went to his profile and seen all of his really good informative video’s and notes. Then i probably would of asked him for any tips where he could have introduced the e-book. Now I would of actually read it because i know it’s going to be Johnny’s best stuff. When you present yourself as a valuable person you attract people. NOT by spamming them with what you think value is.

“To succeed in network marketing you MUST give people what they want, NOT what you THINK they want”

Always –Matt

It’s easy to bring value, but don’t forget to become valuable too. Awesome work Matt!
