What a Daily Plan and Consistency Can do For You

by Christopher D. Anderson on July 6, 2009

If there is one thing that can really help you with your business everyday it is this. Make a list of what you need to do every day. Something like this:

- Add friends on Myspace

- Add friends on Facebook

- Interact on Forums

- Post on Blog (it’s good to have a consistent schedule for this too, even if it’s not everyday)

- Post ads

- Post articles

- Make video

- or whatever tactics you are using.

Make this list. Actually write it down. Keep it around and do it every day. Figure what techniques you need to do that work to help you and your business. Whether your bringing in more traffic to your website or building your online presence, they need consistency. Get into the habit of doing these things everyday. Or every other, or once a week. Whatever it may need.

This consistency builds everything up for you over time. And it shows credibility as well.

And not only can this help you build your business but it also help you manage your time. Give yourself a certain amount of time for each task. And stick to it. Things will be much easier when it is laid out in front of you in a simple plan. This makes your daily tasks easier and much more effective.

I just have a little piece of paper that has a list of my daily tasks on it. I pull that out every morning and start on it. It’s simple, but it makes things much easier for me to do. Instead of trying just remember and haphazardly doing. Plus it makes it easier to stay consistent with a list staring at me in the mornings.

Plus I went out and bought a cheap weekly planner to write in some other details that I do to. Especially for posting blogs or making videos. Something that isn’t an everday task but still needs a planned schedule.

There are many ways to make a plan. It could be a scrap piece of paper all the way to a complicated software that sends your reminders. Whatever it is, make it work for you. It will make a huge difference for you.

What do you use to keep you on pace and consistent? Do you have a daily plan for your tasks?

I leverage what technical reminder tools that are available on my desktop to help me do consistent work on internet marketing. I completely agree that all these actions add credibility. I have worked with clients who were so gung ho to make that impression to the internet world that they worked way too hard early in the process and sputtered out because they could not maintain the commitment level. So I have reworked the process by estimating time for tasks and tripling the amount of time estimated for each task. Then I would work with my client to determine how many articles, videos, contacts etc they wanted to generate for a month I would divide this work up into X equal chunks for the month… Then guess what? I would double the number of scheduled sessions to accomplish these tasks. No guilt if you miss one of your sessions, but the whip starts cracking if you miss the second! This is a realistic way to get used to a routine and feel there is chance to make an accomplishment. This also produces a real world example of the load one may have to maintain for some time. Guesss what? Some of my clients are creatures of habit and realize that they cannot adjust to accomplish these tasks… But they have just created an outsourcing wish list where they pay X amount of money to accomplish these goals and regain their free time for other projects. –Regards, Dexter

I have a hard time sticking to a routine, so I’ll give this a shot. I have heard that varying your posting times for things like blogs, twitter, etc actually help hit a wider audience. Do you have any thoughts on whether or not that’s true?

@ Dexter
That is an excellent way to do things. Just like anything else your process will change and will get better. As long as you have a process. Awesome way to do things :) Oh and outsourcing can be a great way to free up time. As long as it’s a routine that doesn’t change. And if you can afford it. But if you can, by all means use outsourcing.

@Mac
Cool, let me know how that goes. Like I said, it can be something just as simple as writing your routine on a piece of scrap paper. Or a software that has reminders that pop up. Whatever you decide, it helps you focus more then anything and your able to get things done a bit faster.

I think it can add some variety and maybe hit a bit wider audience. I know someone that does his posts pretty randomly and he does pretty well. I think it just comes down to personal preference. Personally I like to be consistent. People will know what to expect. Not that I won’t throw something odd in there once in awhile to keep everyone on their toes ;)

Great comments :)

Great post Chris! One of your most valuable to date! Yes I absolutely keep a planner and tasks to do in many different area’s of my life. If you can’t afford a Blackberry or iPhone or whatever get a planner that should be with you at all times! And of course keep this electronically on some form or online scheduler that sends you reminders. Personally I prefer google calender which is free through gmail or google apps. Outlooks is good as well and many other options just have something in place to keep you in check! Ok I got a little fired up. haha. I might have to do a post on this.

Those who fail to plan… plan to fail!

Awesome Ethan. Yup, there are all kinds of different ways to help you keep on track. Everyone is different and has a different way of doing things. As long as it works for you and keeps you focused, that is key.

Oh and getting a little fired up is just fine lol.
