Becoming a Great Marketer and Leader is a Skill, Not Just Talent.

by Christopher D. Anderson on July 8, 2009

It seems that some of these gurus and successful people were natural born business people. And some of them probably are. Some people have a talent and are more adept to being successful. But that doesn’t mean that anyone else can’t achieve greatness.

Being a great marketer and leader is a skill. Something that can be learned and improved. No one is born that way.

There are different traits and abilities that help us all become great leaders. And if we take the time to learn and improve these then we can all succeed. Traits such as these can be learned:

- courageous

- helpful

- knowledgable

- honest

- willing to take a chance

- loyal

- self disciplined

To name just a few. And not to mention all the other typical skills we learn as we go (these are a bit more obvious, but are just like your traits, they are learned):

- making good copy

- generating leads

- making good products

- speeches

- valuable services

These are traits that we can learn and train ourselves to be. We can make these habits part of our personality. We all have the ability to change ourselves for the better if need be. It’s not a questions of who we are, but who we can be. How can we make ourselves more effective. In marketing and helping others. That’s what we do is solve problems and help people.

You have a choice to become a great leader. It’s not some holy grail. It just takes time and persistence. And a great desire to succeed!

I agree. Skills can be learned! One thing I would have to disagree with is that honesty, integrity and character are life long attributes. Yes people can change their ways. But for the most part if someone comes to me and wants to work with me but lacks these qualities they don’t get my time. Cause no matter their skill sets they will never lead people long term because people that lack integrity never have long term success. Maybe a bit of an off topic rant but it is what came to m ind. Thanks Chris!

I agree, having those traits anyways should be a normal thing. But some people don’t. But you can change if you so desire.
