The Copywriter’s Handbook Review

by Christopher D. Anderson on May 17, 2009

This is for anyone that is interested in copywriting of any sort. That includes online and offline. It’s The Copywriter’s Handbook, by Robert Bly. It’s definitely one to keep on the shelf, or in your hand reading.

The main thing I like about this book is that it gets straight to the point. He doesn’t beat around the bush for 50 pages like some people and talk about their achievements. Not that I mind per say (as that can be interesting) but it’s really nice to get a short intro and then jump right into the book.

Now as online marketers, copywriting is something we have to deal with daily. And I think that this book can be useful to everyone. Whether you outsource your copy or do it yourself, this book can still be a lot of help. It really gets into what makes a good copy and the process of it.

Not to mention that a good portion of the book is for offline copy, but the strategies can be easily used for web copy as well. Speaking of which,  the third edition of this book has some added material. Specifically for web copy and any differences between on and offline.

It goes over all the different kinds of copy and advertising as well. From magazine ads, to PR advertising, direct mailing, web copy and so on. He really covers the spectrum of potential jobs that a freelance writer could have. And explains the differences.

So ya, I definitely give this one a thumbs up. It’s easy to read, straightforward and easy to understand. And he wrote it well enough that you can learn a lot just from reading a little bit. If your interested in doing copy, this would be a darn good investment!
