Social Marketing Overview

by Christopher D. Anderson on May 11, 2009

Social marketing can be quite a powerful tool to use in your marketing toolbox. But I see people do it wrong all the time. I’m talking about networking sites, such as myspace or facebook. Among many others.

These can be really good ways to generate leads but only if you use it right. A lot of people will throw links in your face as soon as you add them. I don’t believe this is the right way to go about it. These sites are meant for networking. And when used probably can really help with your business.

No one likes to be sold to. Especially fellow marketers. But if you take the time to network with others you can create relationships. That will help you in your business in several ways. Networking can not only help you build leads and your list, but also your team.

Let people know that you can help them. Be involved with others. Market yourself. Yourself and what you can do for others. Don’t just throw links at everyone and call it a day. Yes, you may get some leads from that. But it’s nothing compared to the relationships that you can build with others.

These relationships can really be a good cause for you and your business. Alot of people generate leads every day using social networking. But only because they are involved. And they help others.

Give and you shall receive. It’s true on these kinds of sites. Pass on information, links, your business even. Only when it helps others. Don’t just throw everything at someone as soon as you meet them. Build relationships and help others. You’ll be giving to the community and building your credibility. Which is fantastic for you and your biz.

It may not seem like your typical marketing but before you know it, people will be contacting you. Wanting to know about you and your business. If that’s the case, they are already half sold.

If you help others and provide helpful information and content, you’ll have a very loyal following.

p.s. I use facebook and myspace frequently and would love to help anyone. And it’s also the best way to contact me. Links to those are on the right side —>

Great Blog post Chris! So true. I wish people would stop spamming so much on Facebook and other social networks. It makes the whole industry of Network Marketing and Affiliate Marketing look bad. Thanks for stepping up as a leader and posting an honest reply.

Thank you Ethan. That’s definitely a good point too. It does make it look bad.

Yeah Chris, I get spammed all the time on MySpace, Facebook and even Twitter now! I wish more people would read Magnetic Sponsoring and learn just what you are talking about in this post. They need to learn to share their knowledge, help others and not look for anything in return.

A good quote I read about Social Media is that it’s like a cocktail party, you don’t walk in screaming “BUY MY PRODUCTS” do you…and if you did, you’d be the person everyones avoiding at the party!

Thanks for the input. It seems people want to take the easy way out or something. In all actuality it’s actually much easier to share information and have people come to you!
